MATCH REPORT - Paignton Rugby Girls U18s vs Wellington Chiefs RFC - Official Girls U18s

FINAL SCORE:

Paignton Rugby 43 - 17 Wellington RFC

After observing the act of Remembrance accompanied by a bugle fanfare, 11 Cherry Blossoms took to the Queen’s Park field to take on the current county champions.

Playing against at least 1 extra player at all times, Paignton started slowly, but a pre match nerves dissipated, the team seemed to quickly go up through the gears, playing excellent rugby with all players making yards with the ball, tackling and rucking well.

The forwards were dominant in the set piece, this allowed the backs to run lots of first phase ball, before setting up and allowing the forwards to move the ball forward.

Paignton score three unanswered tries (one converted) before losing their fly half, at this point Wellington got some impetus and scored two tries, making half time nervous with the score line at 17 - 12.

Paignton started the second half well and with the exception of one good run from Wellingtons no.10 dominated the game scoring a further 4 tries, 3 of which were well converted.

With seconds to play the crowd held their breath, as one of our players on her last game before re-locating to Australia picked up the ball on the halfway line started a jinking run that seemed destined to end with the try of the day, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

The final whistle blew seconds later, to the disappointment of a crowd who had loved and cheered every second of a truly outstanding team performance.

A great platform for this team to start their cup campaign!!!
